What exactly is it that makes a house green? There are plenty of expert  architects, builders, and programs that will help you answer this question and determine which products and materials are best for your home, your family and the environment. Green Building or Practitioner Certification Programs:

Green Advantage Environmental Certification — Established with grant funding from the EPA and the Nature Conservancy, Green Advantage was developed in collaboration with Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), and the University of Florida. Its mission is to deliver certification programs for building-related practitioners � primarily contractors, subcontractors and trades people.

Green Building Certification Institute(GBCI) — While the U.S. Green Building Council handles the development of the LEED Rating System and offers LEED-based education programs, the LEED Professional Accreditation program is independently administered under the Green Building Certification Institute to allow for balanced, objective management of the credential.

Green Point Rated (CA) — GreenPoint Rated is a program of Build It Green, a professional non-profit membership organization whose mission is to promote healthy, energy- and resource-efficient buildings in California.

National Association of Homebuilders – Green Building Program (NAHB) — A home building certification process measuring against the best existing definition of green and sustainable home construction.

USGBC: LEED — The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design green building rating system, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council, provides a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction.
