Maria Zerr, a member of Bellaire Young Mothers, recently purchased an organic mattress and sent around the following email to her list serve about New Living:
“I just wanted to let you all know about a phenomenal local store that’s a godsend of a resource for all things green for the home–and safe for our kids.  It’s called New Living, and it’s in the old Wagner Hardware space in Rice Village.

New Living is a green building and home store committed to giving everyone access to healthy, safe, clean spaces that are affordable.

On the green home side, they carry organic mattresses and bedding, non-toxic cleaning and baby products, and much more.  Whether your kids have allergies or not, these products make a world of difference.

On the green building/renovation side, they sell locally made products, including non-toxic paints and finishes, sustainable flooring, carpet, and countertops, and custom cabinetry and millwork.

New Living also acts as a hub for many other green service providers, including designers and decorators, healthy home and energy assessment professionals, green builders and contractors, and a toxin-free cleaning service.

They are focused on helping the community to create homes and spaces with great indoor air quality, free of many of the toxins and off-gassing that surround us every day.   Houston’s air quality is already one of the worst in the nation.  It makes sense to do whatever we can do inside our own homes and schools to lessen our childrens’ exposure to these toxins.

New Living is also the first business in Houston to become a “B corporation”–which is a new category of business incorporated to create a public benefit and help address social or environmental challenges.  Yeah, they’re all that.

They’re all also really nice people, and they go out of their way to ensure superlative customer service.

Mayor Annise Parker loves them.  They’ve been written up in The Chronicle, as well as the local papers.

Their contact information is below.  Check them out.  You’ll be glad you did.  And so will your kids.”
